Since the summer, Svašek Hydraulics has been contributing to the sinking operation of the Northern tunnel element of the Maasdeltatunnel, which is part of the Blankenburgverbinding project. Using the high-resolution version of the OSR model, an automatic forecast was set up to predict the flow and salinity in the Scheur as accurately as possible. Based on these predictions, our client BAAK BBV could assess whether the flow conditions were favorable enough to safely start the sinking operation of the tunnel element. On October 21^st 2023, the conditions were unfavorable, partly due to storm Babet which caused strong winds and flow velocities. Fortunately, on Monday, November 6^th 2023, the conditions were favorable enough and the operation could be carried out successfully!
