The electricity company PEN has linked the Island of Texel in the national power distribution network of the Netherlands. The Wadden Sea / Texelstroom crossing of the double 50 kV connection is realised by 2 cables, each approximately 7,500 metres long without joints. The cables were buried in the sea bed with a coverage up to 8 metres by direct trenching (jetting) to meet expected morphological developments. The spacing of the cables was 100 metres.
Svašek Hydraulics has executed a route selection study, a bathymetric survey, a morphological study, a burial depth study and formulated a prediction of future developments. During the installation Svašek Hydraulics provided daily supervision.
After completion of the project, regular surveys were done and evaluations were made on the morphological stability of the sea bed along the cable routes.
